Who am I?
I’m a professional writer specializing in integrated communications.
My approach?
First you figure out what has to be said. Then, and only then, find the best way to say it.
My motto?
Live simply. Travel often.
My passion?
All things creative. In my spare time I like to fill sketch pads, write fiction and make up golf scores. I’m also a co-founder of the Wheatsheaf Literary Society, a drinking club with a reading problem.

Hi John,
Thank you for your kind words. I have been a bit busy and have not been able to create a proper website. Temporarily, you can see a little more work at goforitdesign.carbonmade.com. Also, you can check out a feature on me in HOW in the upcoming July issue.
All the very best, Nancy
Hi John. My frank comments are:
What is your goal—what is the site supposed to do? Is it just random observations, news, or cool spots like you currently show? Is it a critique of the industry? A rhetorical conversation about the abuses and oddities of the English language? Put the proverbial stake in the ground to claim your territory. Find a saying or a catch phrase, something that sums up what I can expect to find. One blog I read regularly is called: “AdAged: Will Madison Avenue become Detroit. George Tannenbaum on the future of advertising, the decline of the English language, and other frivolities.” Great stuff from a copywriter my age about the BS of the industry and tirades against hackneyed expressions and overused metaphors (like, stake in the ground) Sometime he even adds comments about his relatives.
As for the “Start Here” page… meh. It could be too long—this isn’t snark, it’s just that I’m not sure how it relates to everything else. Perhaps it appears for your own benefit, as mental batter boards as you build your site. I think “Who am I” and “My Motto” is enough (one of my favourites is, “Man’s most valuable trait is a judicious sense of what not to believe” (Euripides), because I’m skeptical of most of the pronouncements by so-called experts, especially those in our industry).
Anyway, you have a lot to say, many people respect your opinion. Tell me a story, get pissed off, rant and rave, ponder, whatever it is as long as it makes me think… and want to come back. Say it and we will come.
Thank you Sean. This is great feedback. I guess I’ve never focused the content because I don’t see this as a commercial site. I have plans to create some money-making sites but I’m trying to make this my portfolio site. It’s just a place for people to see what’s on my mind and get to know me.
I’ve always resisted ranting because I’m fundamentally a peaceful guy. When I rant about grammar and style people just think I’m a nut job.
It’s funny man, after 186 posts I’m still struggling with a theme (which you observed because you’re awesome).
I’m taking all your comments to heart and I appreciate the thought you put into your response. Now I’m going to listen to some John Prine on the loud speaker. Thanks man.
For those of you who haven’t seen Nancy’s work, take a look here. It’s lovely.
